Big Grin The Boston Terrier: an Excellent Family Dog and A Very Self-sufficient Dog
The Boston Terrier has been nicknamed the American Gentleman due to its great, gentle disposition and its tuxedo like cover. One of the few breeds that is truly 'manufactured in the UNITED STATES.'

Boston Terriers are scored by the American Kennel team together of the most intelligent varieties of dogs; making housetraining basic. With time, they've developed into a light breed that's content to sit on your lap and be petted.

Originally bred down in size from pit-fighting puppies the Boston Terrier was much larger than it's to-day, weighing up to 44 pounds.

It seems difficult to trust that these little dogs were once tough opening competitors. The Boston Terrier resembles the Staffordshire Bull Terrier with its strong fighting instinct. The Boston Terriers of today are a far cry from the proud fighting dog of days gone by.

The Boston Terrier come from a cross between a white English Terrier and the English Bulldog. Around 1870 an imported dog called 'Judge' was sold to Robert.C.Hooper. The dog became called 'Hooper's Judge' and was a prize stud dog who was mated with many girls. In the first years, the markings and color were not as important because they are today. By the 1900's the varieties markings and colors were an essential part of the breed element. According to the breed standard, the characteristic marks must be marked white in proportion with a black, brindle, seal or mix of those three. 'Seal' is a term used to describe particularly a color found on Boston Terriers - a black color with red highlights. The white must include the chest, muzzle and a group around the neck, halfway up the forelegs. In show dogs, shaped markings are chosen. A new strain of hues (red) Boston Terriers isn't seal.
